June 30, 2009 12:56 p.m. | Muskego — An 80-year-old man was tied up and blindfolded while two men ransacked his home about 3 a.m. Tuesday, Muskego police Capt. John La Tour said.
The man was not harmed, but the two men woke him up, made verbal threats and then used painter's tape to tie his hands and feet. They also blindfolded the man while they stole personal items, cash and the man's light blue-gray 2005 Ford Freestar van, La Tour said. The license plate on the van is 574 APM.
The man was able to free himself and went to a neighbor's home to call police.
Police think the two men who invaded the man's home on Cornell St. also might have robbed a bartender from Bushy's Pub and Grill early Monday, La Tour said.
The bartender was walking to his car at 2:30 a.m., carrying a duffel bag with his personal items. One man came out of the bushes with a gun and another came from another direction, striking the bartender on the head, La Tour said.

March 11, 2010 11:35 p.m. | Minneapolis-based developer Ryan Cos. has agreed to buy a 23-acre site in Brookfield, formerly the site of a printing plant, where the company hopes to develop a Target discount store and senior apartments.
That's according to two real estate industry sources who spoke about the project on the condition that their names not be published.
A Ryan executive didn't return phone calls Thursday. A Target spokesman said the company hasn't announced plans for a new Brookfield store. Typically, Target announces its new stores one year ahead of when the store will open, spokesman Kyle Thompson said.
Dan Ertl, Brookfield's director of community development, said the former Quebecor World printing plant is under contract to a developer. But he declined to identify the developer, saying no project plans have yet been filed with the city.
A Quebecor World spokesman also declined to comment, citing a confidentiality agreement with the developer. The printing plant, which closed in 2006, would be demolished to make way for the new developments.

March 09, 2010 9:20 a.m. | The city's Plan Commission on Monday unanimously approved plans for a new Red Robin restaurant at Brookfield Square, a month after they told designers to come up with a more creative look for the building.
Red Robin, a gourmet burger chain with nine locations in Wisconsin, plans to build a 5,700-square-foot restaurant and bar at the site of the former Houlihan's restaurant on the mall's east side between Barnes & Noble and Mitchell's Fish Market. The Houlihan's building will be razed.
Members of the Plan Commission last month tabled any action on the plans, but representatives from Red Robin presented revamped plans Monday that increased the size of the restaurant's entryway and added more architectural elements on the building's north side.
The Common Council will vote on the Plan Commission's recommendation Tuesday.

The School Board on Monday approved that his pay/benefit package be frozen at $201,000 for the 2010-11 school year. Kreutzer actually will take somewhat of a cut in pay next year because his state mandated retirement contributions will go up.
Kreutzer said he reported pay of $163,000 on his 2009 taxes.
Times are hard for taxpayers so he volunteered for the freeze, he said.
"This was voluntary on my part," Kreutzer said. "I understand these are hard economic times, and we need to lead from the front."
