What do you think of Southwest Airlines coming to Milwaukee?

May 22, 2009

Southwest Airlines recently announced it will begin flights out of Mitchell International Airport in November. Do you welcome the arrival of Southwest Airlines? What do think will happen to hometown favorite Midwest Airlines, or Air-Tran? We want to hear your thoughts in our online forum.

I'm very excited about Southwest coming to Milwaukee. I have never flown Southwest but I've heard lots of good things about it. With Midwest scaling back, we've lost some non-stop routes that I use regularly. I am excited to see what Southwest will offer.

I am very excited. They fly direct to my parents home town. I have had to go to Chicago to fly with them. Looking forward to leaving directly from Milwaukee. They are a great airline. No seat assignments, efficient, comfortable, and friendly. Great addition!

My family and I have flown them many times even though getting to Midway was sometimes a hastle. We always found them friendly and efficient. I'm excited to have more options for flying from Milwaukee.

Wow, three people who are "excited" by Southwest coming to Milwaukee. It takes a lot more than that to excite me...like Hooters coming to Brookfield.

I don't like it! Presently I can request a window or aisle seat. With Southwest you have to get into a fist fight over seating and usually end up playing footsies with somebody in that asinine stagecoach seating up front! You get what you pay for and Southwest is a horrible airline.

It will be great. I have lived in Midland since 1974 but grew up in SE Wisconsin.Since Southwest has been serving Midland and Chicago Midway but not Milwaukee, we have always had to drive from Midway. It will be nice to fly into Milwaukee.

Anybody that thinks having Southwest here is a bad thing ought to run for a Democratic seat in the State Legislature, because you obviously don't understand how growth is good for business.

It's wonderful news! This is a very nice airline and we need more choices out of Milwaukee.

I think it's great. The more competetion, the better chance of cheaper airfares and flight options. People who fly regularly know what I am talking about.

I love that Southwest Airlines is finally going to service Milwaukee. Years ago I used to drive to Chicago's Midway Airport to fly it before the commute cost more in time than a than I was willing to pay. Despite a lack of reserved seating, boarding on Southwest was always quick and orderly. Its staff from pilots to flight and gate attendants go out of their ways to make you feel welcome with some humor on the side. Welcome Southwest!

I love it! My kids fly out of Chicago Midway often to visit relatives, and are always treated extremely well by the Southwest stafff, and at no extra cost, unlike other airlines. It will be much more convenient having Southwest closer to home.

I am so happy! I have flown Southwest practically since it started. It's so customer friendy and employee friendly. Doesn't charge extra fees for anything. I once missed my flight. The ticket agent found flight going to a city near my destination that would put me there by the time I needed to be there and charged nothing extra for revising my itinerary. I've heard and read about people who say they want an assigned seat. Fine, let them fly other airlines. I've never had a problem getting a seat on a Southwest flight. I've been asking Southwest to come here since I moved to South Milwaukee seven years ago. I've gone to Midway in Chicago numerous times to be able to fly Southwest. Finally, I won't have to do that any more. Thank you, Southwest.

The more choices I have with price and flight times, the better!

I am excited because it will create competition which is alwasy good for the consumer. Southwest has very competitive fares to great destinations like Las vegas, Floirda and Phoenix. I have never flown them but will consider them for the future.

Fantastic! The employees at Southwest that I've experienced on the whole remind me of how Midwest Airlines used to be when it was actually Midwest airlines flying and not one of the commuter operators that does most of their flights now a days.
