Some Wauwatosa residents would like to see a skateboard park be part of Hart Park. Tosa Skateboarders United (TSU) said they’re about to relaunch a fundraising effort to come up with the estimated $560,000 the park would cost.
Is this a good use of the space at Hart Park? Let us know what you think in our forum, but please keep responses to less than 2,000 words or we will be unable to post them.
With so many activities for small children, adults and tweens/teens geared toward "traditional" sports it would be great to see something specific for this niche. Some people are afraid of skaters and bikers because they don't understand what they do. About 100 years ago there was a new sport on the scene that had neighborhoods in an outrage...they did not want this sport in their parks for fear of injuries, etc... What was that sport? The million dollar answer..... baseball! Lets open our minds and wallets to something new that could change countless kids perspectives on how their community feels about their recreational needs!
build it now, should have been built sooner
I think a skate park in Tosa is a necessity. I worry all the time that my 13 yo is going to either be ticketed or run over for skating in public places. I don't always have the time to take and pick her up from Four Seasons (Milwaukee) or National Skate Park (West Allis). A skate park closer to home would be convenient and safer. I would even volunteer time to work there if need be!

In my neighborhood in East Town Tosa, I haven't seen any real skateboard/bicycle problems. However, that being said, I think giving young people a place to exercise and have fun in an area that doesn't have moving vehicles is a great idea. While I don't think it's reasonable to have a "guard" on duty, I do think mandatory helmets and pads should be part of the deal, and the police should feel free to enforce any violators of the "helmet law" with citations (or even worse, a phone call to their parents). I think Wauwatosa would do good to encourage outdoor activity among our young citizens.
