Each week, NOW sportswriter David Cotey takes a look at the football teams making a push for the playoffs. Share your thoughts here on what you think about the local high school football scene. We'll post the best comments on our Push for the Playoffs special page.
(18) Read All ResponsesI think you guys are way off about the Warriors this year!
I think our football prognosticator, David Cotey, has made a good case for the Warriors being on the outside of the playoffs looking in. They haven't won yet and still have games against some tough teams. The Warriors definitely showed a lot of heart last week rallying against Tremper though. And Ken Krause will have them ready to play each game the second half of the season for sure. But as Jim Mora might say, "Playoffs?!"
Remember MuskegoMark, the Push for the Playoffs isn't really judgment on a team's ability or talent. Instead, it looks at what it takes to qualify for the playoffs - current record, necessary victories, remaining schedule - and mixes all that with ability and talent and offers an educated guess regarding that team's chances of making the postseason. In the case of the Warriors, they have had a brutal schedule to start the season and have matched up well in three of those four games. But the early losses have really put them in a tough spot in terms of reaching the playoffs.
Whitnall is fielding a group of Seniors that has been together since way before High School. Kids have been well coached and motivated by a great group of parents along the way. Prior to getting to Whitnall they were undefeated for 3 years in 6-8th grades. They're having a magical run these past 2yrs...... Your right on having them contend for the Woodland Black Division title!
it says on the playoff page that franklin is the second smallest enrollment in the southeast conference, when really they are the smallest by over 300 students.
What do you think about the rockets this yeaR?
To the person who calls him or herself 'a': I stand corrected. That was an oversight. Franklin is indeed the smallest school in the Southeast Conference by a long shot. It has been changed.
To Rocketfan1: The switch to the Woodland Conference has obviously done wonders for the Rockets, who often took a beating against schools twice its size in the Southeast Conference. The Rockets (4-2 overall, 3-2 conference) are one win away from qualifying for the postseason for the first time since 1998. South Milwaukee has back-to-back games against two of the three teams tied for first in the Black Division - New Berlin Eisenhower and Whitnall - but then closes with St. Thomas More (2-4,2-3). With running back Luke Maldonado and quarterback Sam Oliden leading the way, I say the Rockets end their playoff drought, but they might have to wait until the last game of the season to do so.
Marquette will beat Homestead if give a chance and are in the same bracket when the playoff do announcing after week 9 of the season. However anyone can beat anyone in the playoff regard to the season they are having. Undefeated in the season mean nothing in the post-season. When the playoff start, if Marquette are in Homestead bracket, chance, Marquette can takes Homestead out this time.
HAHA at MuskegoMark. Muskego is horrible.
No one beats Marquette this year in any bracket, in any playoff, on any field.
anyone know the first official day for the playoffs....is it a tuesday again 10/27 or a Fri/Sat. 10/23-24 or 10/30-31 ??? Will it go every Sat after the first two rounds...or flexible on Fri or Sat ?? please help. Thanks.
After watching the dominant football teams around South Eastern Wisconsin, it is obvious that no team is playing at a higher level than Marquette. Giving up an average of 4 points per conference game is no easy thing to do; blowing out two very good teams in the preseason is not easy to do; and winning their first state championship will not be easy to do, but I have every reason to believe that Marquette will overcome that challenge just like they've overcome everyone else this season.
John from Wauwatosa, the playoffs begin Tuesday, Oct. 27 and then most subsequent games will be played on the following Saturdays (though Fridays are an option). Playoff pairings will be announced a week from Friday, so be sure to check the NOW sites for up-to-the-minute information on all of the NOW-area teams.
Are you prevented from talking about Pewaukee because they're not considered a "NOW" community? C'mon - Back to back conference championships in the Woodland isn't worth a mention?
Unfortunately, the time has come for Tom Swittel to hang up his clipboard and call it a career as the head football coach at Tosa East. After yet another disappointing season, interest in TE football is at an all-time low for players and fans. We need new blood at the top, and that means, at the very least, a new head coach. The AD and principal at Tosa East need to put their heads together and get this situation figured out quickly before we lose another season to mediocrity.
Yeah good one about MARQ... theyre about to lose bud

No one is going to beat Homestead. The Highlanders should be playing small college teams to find some competition instead of North Shore Conference teams. What does everyone else think?
