Bushy's Pub and Grill and the City of Muskego have hammered out a deal where the bar has agreed to give up its liquor license for two weeks stemming from a January incident in which two bouncers are accused of beating up a patron.
Have you seen problems at Bushy's? Is this punishment just right or not harsh enough? Let us know what you think in our forum.
(38) Read All ResponsesThis is what happens when you hire thugs as bouncers. They believe itif they are bouncers, they have a license to fight. I was there a year or so ago, and a patron was asked to leave. The bouncers on duty had it under control, and then a few off-duty bouncers were there and started yelling and pushig the patron out the door. This caused a scene. It doesn't suprise me to hear of the most recent bouncer problems. If Ms. Kurer wants to improved her reputation she needs to look into hiring respectable bouncers and not thugs.
My husband and I have never seen any problems, but then again, we've never been there any later than for a quick dinner. If bars in Milwaukee shut down after every incident, there would be nothing left open!
Closing for two week won't do anything. I have seen problems in the past and I don't think it will get better. Maybe pulling their license for a month or two will do the trick!
Yes! The bouncers there are on power trips and they get waay to physical. My buddy got punched in the face there a little while back by one of the bouncers for spitting his gum on the floor. I know thats gross, but I mean come one! Punched in the face for that?
I have been in the bar and restaurant business for many years. I have been to Bushy's during the daytime and I thought it was a nice place with decent food. Yet, it is up to the owners of a bar as to what type of place they want to run, especially at night when most of the trouble could happen. I have seen many places that have all sorts of characters coming in that rarely if ever have a fight and if they do, it is broken up right away without anyone getting hurt. The owners of Bushy's need to set a new tone, that fights will not be tolerated and that the police will be involved if anyone steps out of line. Any patron who is involved in a fight needs to be banned from the place. As far as the bouncers go, they need to hire and train people who have restraint and know how to diffuse a situation. The best bouncer is the guy who can stop any fight without having to manhandle anyone. If they have problems with fights often, I would tell the staff to be vigilant for any signs of trouble and to intervene before the fight starts. Another concern is how much they are serving their customers to drink. Let the staff know that they need to recognize when someone is having too much to drink and to cut them off. Its all about setting the precedent that bad behavior will not be tolerated and it will stop!
Thats fine, but what about the employees who have families to feed and bills to pay, why should they also be punished. I don't agree with the closing at all.
Closing for two weeks will hopefully cause the owner and her employees to take a closer look at what's really been happening there. I've been a cop for a long time, and I've seen the bouncers there in action - way out of line. If I had jurisdiction there, they would have been cuffed and locked up. Crowds - individuals and large groups - can be diffused or incited, all depending on the actions of those in charge. I sure hope, for the sake of the non-bouncers who work there for a living, this causes a change. If things stay the same, the city attorney and county DA need to get off their butts and charge these people with the crimes they are committing. They'll be gone, then, and the place will get better. The food and atmosphere are great. The rest is all about treating people right.
That place is a hole anyways. Shut it down...
I think that Bushy's should be close for good. The people that own the place are not very nice people. The bouncers are always picking on people. I was there one night and I would never go back in there again.
This will not solve a thing. If the bouncers and the company were either negligent or committed a crime deal with that appropriately. This is a bit of window dressing that has no impact. I don't know if Bushy's was out of line, but I don't believe this will have the desired outcome.
This about the communuity, not a handful of people that work at Bushy's. May be they should find jobs at a decent place.
Melissa Of Muskego. They should make the bar owner pay his employees while he is closed. That would make the punishment sting even more, and he might just learn a lesson.
Bushy's needs to change it's name to Bashy's. That's what they'll do to customers if they get out of line!
There are two separate issues to address here. First, note that (as indicated late in the news article), the 2 week suspension of Ms. Kurer’s liquor license is part of a Plea Bargain Agreement which Kurer accepted in exchange for dismissal of the “obstruction of police” criminal charge against her personally (not the business) in connection with the most recent of 3 separate incidents in which her employees beat up one or more patrons. (The actual employees were charged individually and are not part of this Plea Bargain Deal). If problem patrons were also a consideration in this plea agreement, I feel Kurer got off with a very light slap on the wrist compared to actions taking against other Muskego businesses (i.e. Alpine Bowling having their license suspended over Super Bowl weekend for serving a one underage drinker.) The second issue is the actual closing of Bushy’s doors for the suspension period. I completely agree that the closing creates an unfair hardship on the employees and their families. Please remember, however, that it was Ms. Kurer, not the City of Muskego, who decided to close the doors. (I believe that Alpine remained open as a ‘dry establishment’ during its suspension.) Hopefully, the employees will at least be able to collect unemployment for this period since it was Kurer’s decision to close. Finally, I cannot help but wonder why it took Muskego officials so long to deal with the problems at Bushy’s. Why were there no consequences to the first and second incidents in which bouncers beat up patrons or the many complaints regarding Bushy’s patrons conduct in the parking lot and yards of surrounding homes? Maybe if they had taken action more promptly, matters would not have gotten so far out of control. On the surface, Bushy’s is one of the nicest restaurants in Muskego and I would hate to see us lose it.
The business should never have been shut down even for a day. Who is that punishing? Every type of business that operates in the evening has had their share of problems. If everyone had to shut down for a confrontation, there would be few places open. Bushy's operates with the upper most excellence and quality in food and atmosphere. She has has established a business that is an upgrade for the City of Muskego. Punish the people that created the disturbance, not a respectable business person such a Lynn and her hard working employees.
I wonder if they really aer closed. Evertime I drive past there are dozens of cars in the parking lot.
Suzi of Muskego, Maybe all this could have happened sooner but Muskego's mayor stopped the council from acting sooner, wonder why! Maybe because he also goes there?
The beating of a patron by Bushy's bouncers was not surprising. I have avoided the establishment for years because of the intimidating atmosphere. I think the bully mentality starts with Ms. Kurer and permeates down to the rest of her employees. Over the years, I've seen many people treated poorly in that place and it's just not the right way to run a business. Not to worry, if that mentality continues, the patrons will close the place by taking their business elsewhere. I'm not the only person I know that won't set foot in the place.
I know Lynn, as well as her entire family. These are good people who care about there customers as well as city. Some times bad things involve good people. I am certain that they will correct what ever oversight happened. They have built a very nice business, with years of hard work.
I can understand the bar getting in trouble for their employees stepping over the line, but they can't be totally responsible for people fighting on their property. Morons + Booze = Trouble. You can't predict that trouble. I went to this place the first time a few weeks ago. I loved it and will go back when they re-open. With people saying they were given a hard time by bouncers...you probably drank too much and "thought" you weren't doing anything wrong. Lay off the booze and you won't have the same issues. I worked at a bar in college and threw out many people that "thought" they had done nothing wrong when in fact they were lucky we didn't call the cops.
Make sure you use a coaster when you go there for a drink. Otherwise you may end up just like the guy did on January 17th. I understand that the 2 week shutdown was part of the owner's plea bargain, hope she uses this time to properly train her bouncers on how to properly run security.
i like bushy's but they need to hire people that have better people skills.
I think the owner and her employees need to respect the neighbors. We have had lost drunks wondering the neighborhood trying to find a ride home after being over served at Bushy's. Kurer also gives us dirty looks for cutting through her parkng lot to get to the school, yet her customers use the school parking lot every day. We get to school and find beer cups, vomit, adult underwear in the parking lot, but can't drive through hers. She's a terrible neighbor! Her employees are too rough and over serve the customers!
In most municipalities around Wi. three strikes like this would qualify for Losing their license. This indicates a real problem, most places don't have bouncers at all, it is indicative of the crowd that is attracted to the place. In this cases like this it is best to change the type of crowd by offering a higher class experience and therefore disinteresting the type of folk prone to violence, IE: Drunks.
I was a strono supporter of Bushy's for a long time. Frequented it often and even brought the family there during the week. Then something changed and I tried to have a open mind, but I watched in horror as the employees and management along with the owners took on a power kick. It was as though they had the City in their back pocket and wanted to do their own thing. I watched in horror as off duty employees talked trash to young ladies at the restaurant and then I personally witnessed them harassing young ladies in the parking lot. After witnessing that last act by the bouncers - again one whom was on duty and the other off duty - I decided enough is enough and have not been back since. Nor will I ever go back. I encourage all of our gatherings to be else where and we still frequent Muskego establishments that treat all their guests with "class". Bushy's time is up they need to move on and get their own personal affairs in order. They have used this "lesson" to benefit themselves and do not even care about the employees that are out of work. Closing two weeks is a mere slap on the hand and gave them a chance to get ready for the holidays. A stronger lesson would be if we all stay away. Actions speak louder than words.
I too have patronized Bushy's in the past. The personnel and clientele is a major reason for not returning. Patrons of a business are indicative of the type of establishment it is. I have seen rude, overserved patrons and rude personnel on nearly every occasion of my visits. The business is right smack in the middle of a residential area along with an elementary school right next door. This is definitely a poor location for the unruly crowd that support this business. I would like to see them closed down from the area.
Let's not get on the bandwagon to eliminate bars from Muskego. That is not the point here and let's not blame this on drunks, and "kids". The heart of the problem is the business and how its run. Customers should be treated with respect and enough is enough. Keep it in prospective - we do not want businesses avoiding Muskego. We have many other bars in Muskego that treat their customers well and let them have a good time without the risk of getting harassed or even abused by the employees.
They are not closing it down for two weeks just taking away their liquor license for 2 weeks and they deserve it. Bushy's is known for the bully attitudes of their bouncers so maybe this will teach them a lesson.
the people at Bushys are rude as hell to even decent paying customers - shut em down!
I can't stand that bar. The people who work there are all jerks and act like they are better than you. I've been there 4 times and every time I've been treated like dog crap and have seen a fight EVERY time. It needs to close for good and hopefully a place with NICE owners and workers will take over!
Lets start a petition, or protest to close them down. Enough is enough with this place - call your alderman.
I really hate the idea that the bar is next door to an elementary school, I think that appearance sends a bad message. I know that any problems that have or may arrise will be at night when the school is not open - but then I have also taken my kids to the school playground and found broken drinking bottles/glasses in the past. Have people been stumbling from the bar to the playground at night? What kind of neighborhood does that make for the MANY children that live nearby? I would be extremely happy to see Bushy's close down and an establishment more family friendly open in it's place!
I think it's great to punish the business for what happened there. However, it is unfortunate that all the employees that work there are being punished. Just think all those people are without work for two weeks.
I have personally witnessed the bouncers at Bushy's going too far. A group of friends and I went there one Friday night this winter. My girlfriend (who was NOT drinking) used a chair to get a dart from the top of the dart board machine and was grabbed and yanked down by a bouncer who told us that we would be kicked out if we didn't calm down. We were a group of women quietly playing darts! I think that Bushy's needs to be more aware of the types iof people they are employing and train them in how to properly deal with customers - rowdy or not.
I believe the Mayor and 5 Alderman rotate the bars to have the after the meeting, meeting and this is one of the places. The Alderman who wanted to seriously punish them did not seek re-election. Anyway, I stopped going there and if we just stop going there and tell our friends not to go there. I hope the problem will go away. I do not see City Hall being much help. They were the ones who thought 2 weeks was a tough punishment. Compare that to the punishment Alpine Lanes received something just does not seem to add up..
My family only went to the restaurant one time because we heard that the hamburgers were so wonderful. After we found our own seats in the dining area, it took about 15 minutes before any server came to us. The food wasn't as great as expected, so, we won't be back. And now for sure won't return because we don't want to get beat up for any minor annoying behavior the staff won't tolerate.
Do they serve Beer Chasers with their Bloody Noses! Two weeks was a slap on the wrist. I will never go there. She must have some dirt on some people at City Hall

It's not the owner's responsibility to control all the thug punks that come into her place. Too many of the young are imitating the cage fighting that is on TV. We seem to exploit violence on TV, movies, and in video games. Why wonder what that does to the minds of the young men and women who go out and drink? We are a very "sick" society, and the Democratic liberals love it!
