Wisconsin was recently named the 10th most lenient state when it comes to parents disciplining their kids. The ranking came from more than 72,000 votes cast as part of the America’s Strictest State Poll.
Are kids getting away with too much because of lenient parents? Let us know what you think in our forum!

I would suspect there were other factors included in the poll that skewed the data perhaps the percent of Wisconsin Parents that work and depend on daycare services or lower expectations of WI parents when it comes to their child's abilities. The terrible two's are terrible as the primary task is teaching the child the meaning of NO. If you cannot get the child to conform by age three the road to child rearing becomes very bumpy with often embarrassing moments of negative behaviors. I am suspicious of the poll measuring criteria. How much strength was given to our juvenile justice code, what ages were examined. The lack of information can be very misleading.
Daily I see children misbehaving in stores with parents either ignoring them or thinking that they are so cute that everybody must adore them. Myself, I got away with stuff when I was young that had I been my parents, I would have cracked down on. However, when my kids were younger, I was so busy trying to earn a living and pay the bills that too often my kids didn't get the attention and support that they needed. If only every family could be like the Cleavers or the Nelsons from TV long gone.
I totally agree with this. I see so many of my teens friend's parents let them do things that blow my mind. Example, allowing 15 year old boyfriend/girlfriends to sleep over or spend nights at hotels. Or how about the parent who's 14 year old is pregnant and was allowed to get drunk over new year's? Parents allowing kids to text during school, have poor grades and roam the street at night. Yeah wisconsin parents are way to lenient!
I don't think WI is way too lenient, if not more strict than many states. We are for the most part, organized, and structured. Some areas may be worse, but we have many children in private schools, and internet/charter schools...this is a plus.
From what I have observed over the years, some parents let their kids get away with murder. They let them do what they want. "Aw isn't that cute that my child is throwing a tantrum in a nice resturaunt?" What happend to disipline? When we were kids, we got spanked when we deserved it. The parents were always in charge. Not the other way around! These days it seems like some parents are afraid of their kids. At night I bet they sleep with one eye open while the kids have the run of the house.

I am suprised at the ranking, I grew up in Wisconsin and compared to other parts of the country I have lived in Wisconsin was always "reasonable" in every thing, not out there like both coasts and Texas
