Homeowners in Greenfield were more than a little bit surprised to look out their windows recently and see a new, electronic billboard standing on the other side of the freeway. The billboard changes advertisements about every eight seconds and its bright messages have some residents ready to install new drapes to keep out the light.
The billboard is on land owned by the city and could generate up to $100,000 per year in revenue, according to city officials.
Do residents have a legitimate complaint about the brightness of the sign? Or is that outweighed by the money the city can make? Do you live in the neighborhood and feel like you need to wear sunglasses all the time?

I'm on 51st and Coldspring and I hate that sign. Our picture window faces the freeway and every time the sign changes its a distraction. For as high as my property taxes went up, I shouldnt have to buy new blinds & drapes.

I believe the people have a legitimate complaint. The city offficials have no interest in the people, they only care about making money. This sign should never been approved. It would have made no change to the outcome of the vote if the people had been at the meeting because the minds were made up before any meeting took place. They didn't care about people's property or the hazard it could be to people using the freeway. Since this billboard was removed from DOT property it should have been put on property they own like at the back of the Loomis park and ride lot.
