Some folks living near the new Dave & Buster's on Mayfair Road are complaining that their neighborhood has been plagued with problems from customers who park on the side streets instead of the restaurant lot.
What's your take on this issue? Do the residents have a legitimate beef? Share your views in our forum.
(19) Read All ResponsesI have to admit, I'm one of the culprits who frequented Dave and Busters and left a trail of vomit to my car. I wish I could apologize to the residents in person but saying i'm sorry on here is the best I can do. I did have a good time and will continue going.
Take away the alcohol and you'll take away the problems. Remember: Alcohol, the cause of and solution to all of life's problems.
As mentioned before this business is still new and experiencing a high rate of trial. If traffic continues to be an issue I am sure they will work with the city to come to a positive solution and outcome. Some people need to get out of their little world and give people and businesses a chance. Wouldn't you want a successful business in your neighborhood which brings money and jobs to Tosa?
Remember "Duchland Dairy"? Remember "Victoria Station"? This too will cycle by. Give it a chance to cool down. The crowd will move on when the next new thing comes along. Remember the Bally pinball restaurant?
Ginger are you saying that Alcohol establishments are always a problem? How do you know people aren't just happy from haivng a good time when leaving the establishment. Your statement is pretty naive saying that alcohol can cure all of life's problems. I have visited this account and in no way see alcohol consumption there any different than your local bar or restaurant as it is done in a responsible and enjoyable manner.
Greg: I believe Ginger's comment of "Alcohol, the cause of, and solution to all of life's problems" was tongue and cheek, as it is a quote from Homer Simpson
Is parking, litter, noise & vomit a nuisance to the neighbors? Absolutely. Will it last after the initial surge of interest in D&B? Possibly. If D&B are smart about it and continue to have neighborhood issues, they will shine up to DSW & Wallgreens to try and work out a shared parking arrangement. Surely D&B's traffic will be coming/going at later hours than DSW's rush. Mo's is an indication of what happens when a business is incredibly successful and carries their initial interest far into the future. It's not always possible / realistic to estimate the necessary amount of parking, or even provide it. Despite the neighbor's complaints, the City is financially better off with these businesses than without. NIMBY can't always be the determining factor.
Greg has apparently never watched The Simpsons.
They're nuts. The article sounds like D&B's moved into this quiet suburban neighborhood. It is a busy, commercial area. Every single person who moved in there knew when they bought their place they were choosing to move into a commercial neighborhood.
We live on the block in question on N. 107th Street. We have seen no vomiting, no broken glass or extra litter since D&B opened. My wife walks our dog daily throughout the neighborhood and says things are as normal as ever. We live near the office building on W. North Av. @ 107th St with the parking ramp that D&B patrons seem to use on weekends. And still we have never heard them squealing their tires or making loud noise when they leave the ramp. So far so good. No extra police have been observed in the area either. I am afraid to say this could be a generational thing with some folks. Overflow parking adjacent to D&B's might be worth pursuing.
I said this in the article comments too: D&B is helping cause the problem by having this stupid valet parking. Seriously, a huge chunk of their parking lot is roped off to get people to pay $5 for valet. What a ripoff. I can park and walk for 1-2 min to save $5. If they just opened up their entire parking lot the issues of parking on neighborhood streets would be reduced. Also, how about police keep an eye out. Nothing teaches idiots not to be loud and obnoxious like a big ticket.
I have been to Dave and Busters all over the country and never have seen any of these issues. I think Milwaukee is different in that instead of company parties and meetings these patrons are just local drunks and whackos. I am not sure why but everywhere else I have been to, the Dave and Busters is a place for company meetings, sales meeting etc etc.
while the valet parking is practically useless, the neighbors need to get over blaming dave and busters for noisy neighborhood. blame the tosa police, as those concerns fall under their jurisdiction.
The noise is the least of your worries.....just wait until one of the gang-banger wannabies gets drunk and somebody "disrespects" him....He pulls out his illegal, concealed gun and someone gets shot. I have been to this store and have seen first hand some of the garbage that walks through the door. Hopefully it won't happen but I bet at some point there will be an article/forum on the violence that happens there. I feel sorry for the law abiding, decent people who go and try to have a fun time, too bad the Wauwatosa PD can't be there all the time to keep the peace, because those renta-cops certainly won't be able to handle it.
I have been to Dave and Busters all over the US (specifically Chicago, Atlanta, other places) and am happy they built one in Milwaukee. As far as the noise, Mayfair Road has aplenty of it even before D & B - and Wisconsin needs to toughen up its drunk driving enforcement and laws. Having said all that, once the initial crowds wear down things will get better. If people are illegally parking then call the cops - same with drunk drivers and all the complaints you can have about any business. Dave and Busters is a great place and I hope it stays here forever.
I welcome any business development that will create job opportunities and revenue for the city like this. This is hardly a porn shop or something! If your concern is alcohol consumption and hooliganism, that can be controlled rather simply with either private or municipal security. The city already looks pretty darn stupid for all of the inane rules and regulations put on new construction like Steak and Shake. Look what an eyesore and bunch of terrorist they turned out to be! They are my neighbor, and a darn nice one, at that. Between that and the Bermuda, er, Burleigh Triangle, one of the most massive areas of blight in the area, we need to be more creative and constructive. If these parking issues along Mayfair Road continue to be a sticking point, why not impose a higher parking capacity requirement for new construction? For Dave and Buster's, that would have meant a slightly smaller building footprint and more parking. It would have obviated the need for the off-site parking. How about design policies that require parking below the structure? This, too, shall level out and resolve itself. Change is hard, but when the change is for the better of the community, the arguments sound pretty hollow.
I went there for the first time last week and will never return. The place is a zoo with a bunch of young inexperienced drinkers acting like they are 16. Im glad the Tosa police are waiting for the drunk idiots to leave. How stupid can ya be?
I find it hard to believe the people living in the neighborhoods five and six blocks east of Mayfair Road are having problems with traffic or rowdiness from D&B's. I think this was an article written by a reporter using the perspective of someone who complained and who wishes to start trouble within the city of Tosa where development is sorely needed.

This statement of "side streets" does not apply. Side streets would be at least 1/2 mile and D&B has plenty of parking. Looks like they might fail for many reasons. Create a forum on the pluses and minuses of visitors' insights.
