Our survey of dangerous intersections in the North Shore shows that Port Washington Road was the street with the most crashes in 2009.
We're asking area drivers to share their opinions on what some of the North Shore's worst intersections are.
Is it Port Road? Silver Spring? Capitol Drive? We'd like get your take in our interactive forum.
(6) Read All Responsesmost dangerous intersection is in Glendale, Wi. It is on Port Washington Road and Henry Clay. There are planted bushes on Port Washington Road in the median strip which makes turning left off of Port onto Henry Clay very difficult. It is also hard to turn left from Henry Clay onto south Port. The visibility is so blocked you have to pull out very far to make these turns. Cut down or trim back these bushes.
I go out of my way to avoid turning north onto Lake Dr. from eastbound Silver Spring. The problem is the swing lane for traffic continuing north on Lake Dr. from Silver Spring/Lake. If you are facing east at the Silver Spring traffic light and want to turn left (north), it can be dicey if there is a lot of northbound traffic lined up at the swing lane, but no westbound traffic coming at you on Silver Spring. I called the police to verify my thoughts on this: I say the left-turning driver facing east on SS constitutes oncoming traffic for cars in the swing lane and thus has the right of way. The police office I spoke with agreed with me -- but it's scary to make that turn because many swing lane divers think they have the right of way.
Turning into Walgreens from south bound Port Washington Rd to Richter Pl.
Good Hope and Milwaukee River Parkway is always challenging. Folks that are turning left onto either side of Good Hope are never mindful of traffic on Good Hope turning left and many times block the intersection and oncoming traffic. I also agree with Port Road north of Bender. North Port Road should become a single straight thru lane at Bender with left and right turn only lanes. That would solve the crazy merges that happen (or don't happen) today.
Traffic lights needed at Port Washington Rd. and Fairy Chasm Rd., also at the intersection of Good Hope Rd. and River Rd.. Both long overdue! Is there a forestry department in any of the North Shore Communities? We could use all intersections checked for over grown spring bushes. Homeowners should be responsible for clearing brush at driveways. Too many near misses. HELP!!!!!

Here's a curmudgeonly list of spots I hate, in no particular order -The narrowing/merging of lanes of Port Washington just North of Bender. -Exiting the Glendale Pick N Save to go north on PW can be a headache sometimes. People tend to pile into the median to turn left rather than drive up to the Green Tree exit and turn right. Could probably be managed better. -The south exit of Bayshore, near the Kohls/Guaranty Bank/Alterra Coffee. When it's busy, it's HELL. -Heading east on Silver Spring near Lydell. Do we really need a left turn only lane there? -Heading north on Lake Drive at Capitol. Same deal. Everyone going north has to shift to the right lane to avoid the handful of cars that turn left. -The West/Green Bay entrance to the Kildeer? Mall (The one with the Old Navy in Brown Deer) is a three way stop only. Incoming traffic doesn't stop, and I've seen no shortage of close calls near that McDonalds. No U turns along Port Washington means everyone turns left at the Walgreens and does a Y turn or U turn on Richter or the Walgreens parking lot
