Tony Day, who defeated incumbent Cudahy Mayor Ryan McCue, will face a number of pressing issues during his three-year term.
What do you think should be the new mayor's top priority? There are plenty of issues facing Cudahy, so let us know what you think is most important.

Top priority should be to promote a large retail business in Cudahy, which will draw more revenue and help fill the vacant shops.
I agree...more businesses are needed in Cudahy. It is a shame when we have to keep going to Oak Creek for everything. We could sure use the money in Cudahy.
It is absolutely true that Cudahy is in need of a large retail business. I would like to see a Shopko, Kohl's or Target. It is ridiculous that we pay the kind of property taxes that we do and have to travel in order to shop!
The mayor should examine the budget from a "zero base" aspect, to see where unneccessary expenses are hidden. Then build a new budget based on "needs" vs "wants." We can't afford any more "wants" right now.
Business growth and development need to be a top priority. Make sure we take care of our existing business and major employers, while work extremely hard to add new businesses, including a major retail development, and proceed cautionsly on this Sara development. Can the theatre idea, unfortunately, the developer will NOT come up with the funds, don't live the pipe dream, but work to bring something to the old Kohls store. Second, make sure that goverment operations are running smooth in a cost effective manner. While only around 27 cents of the dollar goes to CITY services, make sure it is spent wisely. Work with other taxing jusitications (like the school district [major of OUR tax dollars] to reduce costs wherever possible. Third, deal with the slum lords in whatever means possible to clean the up, or move them out!
Wal Mart should be top priority. By bringing in Wal Mart, you will also attract other development in this area including restaurant chains and other national retailers. At the end of the day, I am tired of having to leave Cudahy/S. Milwaukee/ St. Francis area to find a decent restaurant or to take advantage of big box prices. Specialty Shops are great, if you live in a vacation town such as Lake Geneva. Unfortunately, Cudahy is not. If you look at the development going on in Oak Creek compared to us, it is embarrassing. I spend more time in Oak Creek than in Cudahy where I live. I completely understand the effects on small business that Wal Mart/Big Box Retailers can impose, but if I want to get my palm read, I will go to the Magic Shop, or if I want to find a polyester suit with elevator shoes I will still go to Dretzkas. The opportunity is now and Tony Day has a chance to prove himself. If not, we will vote him out in 4 years also.
Business development definitely. Wal-mart or Target most preferable. Shopko, Kohls, etc. welcomed as well. I think an electronics store in the southshore would be good, maybe on Cobalt property. Driving to 76th to go to Bestbuy is getting old. Maybe Fry's or ABT want to get into this market. Definitely getting the most out of our city tax dollars. Possibly looking for ways to work with South Milwaukee and St. Francis DPW to share work where it makes sense.
Find out where the restrooms are.
Development of the former Lakeport site with a Wal-Mart or Shopko. Also spruce up the downtown area of Cudahy. The whole area looks rundown. Not just the business's, but alot of the homes look rundown.
Mayor Day's first priority should be to completely disinfect his new office and remove any leftover reminders of "the McCue years". He should apologize to WalMart on behalf of the citizens of Cudahy and beg them to reconsider building here. Forgive us Walmart, for we knew not what we did when we elected McCue.

Development is king and I think the lack of it is hurting Cudahy. It really doesn't matter who they get as long as someone builds in Cudahy.
