Greenfield's Mad Dog Saloon has been the focus of a number of complaints from neighbors who say the bar has negatively affected the quality of life in the area. Residents have complained of noise and vehicles speeding through the neighborhood. They have alleged other offenses such as public urination and drug use.
Mad Dog's owners and patrons say the charges are overblown and urge people to give the establishment a chance.
What do you think? Do the residents have a point or is this much ado about nothing? Let us know what you think in our forum.
(11) Read All ResponsesI go to Mad Dogs and I want to know wheres the police reports if there is so many problems. Journalist, wheres the quotes from the police and city attorney? You keep writing these stories to scare us, but wheres the proof?! I go to Mad Dogs and I don't see any of the problems. I think if these problems were true there would be tickets and it would get closed. Quit trying to write a good story and give us Greenfield residents that don't live next door some facts! I'd love to support my fellow residents but I think they just don't like living next to a bar. As for Alderman Pietrowski, those were some pretty serious accusations with no police reports. I think you better enjoy the little time you have left as alderman because it seems you've really rallied the troops and now they're gonna expect some results. As for the Mad Dog staff, keep up the good work. Your a great group of people and I don't think they have anything backing for there accusations. I'll still frequent Mad Dogs! Why not, its a great place. Check it out for yourselves!
I play on a 40 and over softball team and we're sponsored by Mad Dog Saloon. I've been there probably 25 times and have never seen a problem. Its a fun place. They have great food and a friendly staff! I'd hate to live next to any bar. I lived upstairs from one in when I was 19 and moved. Sounds like the neighbors don't like it and are getting pretty charged up. I guess if I owned a house and didn't like the bar i would say things about drugs and theft because those are strong words. The only thing is that you probably need proof to do anything. Good luck Mad Dogs but i don't think you'll need it.
This isn't time to be closing successfull businesses. They pay property tax, personal property tax, sales tax, income tax and I'm sure some other taxes. They also employ a lot of people who pay taxes and spend money in this community. What is Mad Dogs guilty of? Success? I have a half a dozen friends out of work and the neighbors want more unemployment! What are the owners gonna do if the lose their license? File bankruptcy!? I'm a 100% on the businesses side. If there are some problems, give them a chance to fix them. I think the first step is deciding if the complaints/problems are legitimate. Second, we need to know if these allegations of crimes are legitimate! If there is crimes taking place and the alderman knows this, then why aren't the police involved. We have a case of either a lying alderman and neighbors or a deadbeat police deptartment.
I've been to mad dogs at least once a week since they opened. I know the owners and most of the employees. The neighbors obviously don't like living nextdoor to a popular bar. When you live next to something or someone you don't like YOU MOVE! What if mad dogs was a firehouse, would they cry about the sirens! If the bar is to noisy then you ask them to quiet down, not get there license taken away. I hope mad dogs wins this battle. Ps my father n law thinks theres been a liquor license on that corner since the 60's. Why did the first article say since 1983?
I was surprised when I heard my neighbors were complaining about Mad Dog Saloon. I’m not signing a petition to go against a place that’s not bothering me! That’s why I bought my house away from the commercial properties. If they don’t like the place then move! That’s the gamble they took when they saved $20,000 on buying a home behind a commercial property! I didn’t buy a home next to a foundry because I don’t like to here banging all the time! Good Luck Mad Dog Saloon, I love what you guys did with the place.
I live in the neighborhood behind Mad Dog Saloon. I here the neighbor complaints and I'm sure some are somewhat legitimate. Has anyone approached the owners? If everyone wasn't acting so crazy right now, I'd walk in the front door and ask for the owner. I don't think they are ticking off us neighbors on purpose. All I've heard is bad things about them but when I ask if they spoke directly with them they say no.
The neighbors are wrong. Go outside the bar and you won't hear any noise. The owners are doing a good job running the place.
The attitude of 'well they aren't bothering me, so I'm not going to do anything about it' is absolutely comical to me. What will you think when your property value plummets because of the problems and you're paying increased taxes (thanks AGAIN Greenfield) on a property that only has a market value half of what it was worth a year ago. This affects the whole neighborhood and I think everyone should be aware if the problems continue at the rate they are right now, you will have a hard time if you ever need to sell your house.
I live behind Greenfield Fashion Center and I've dealt many business changes over the years. We’ve dealt with noise from people and trucks, not to mention trash all over the place. We approached the businesses ourselves and never contacted the city or the police. The managers sat down with us and we talked about the issues. They made promises to work with us and they did. Some of the issues like people hanging out in the parking lot were different. They said they wouldn’t allow loitering in the parking lot and would encourage people to go in or go to their cars and leave. We were happy with that. We understood that they couldn’t control someone yelling or driving fast. All they could do was encourage people to respect the business and the neighbors. The crazy things that people do were out of their control. Whoever has taken this situation this far, was out of order from the beginning. I’ve been to Mad Dog Saloon a few times and was very impressed with the crowd and the staff. I think the neighborhood and business should be working with each other. It sounds like that hasn’t happened.
Family goes to Mad Dog once a week. We are in our 50's and 60's. We have not ran into loud patrons. As far as car noise, there is more noisy exhaust cars on Hwy 100 than here. People purchase homes near commercial property at a lower price that is why they buy it to begin with. All business strip areas are going to have loud cars and people talking loud. There are neighbors that also visit here and say there is no problem. Some people need to complain and make a mountain out of a molehill for everything they personally do not like.

If there are complaints about Mad Dog, then the alderperson should deal directly with the business to resolve all of the issues. I don't think it was necessary for him to call a hearing about the problems before the business got a chance to fix them. It seems like he is just grandstanding and trying to show his residential constituents that he is responsive to them rather than being respectful to both sides. (In other words, he is looking for votes come the next election cycle!) No one in business would want their neighbors to be unhappy. Give Mad Dog a chance to fix the problems. PS: Mad Dog is located on 76th Street which is a very busy road. Wouldn't you expect traffic on both 76th Street and Forest Home Frontage Rd? Proper fencing and traffic signs should solve the problems. Let's get sensible.
